Minister of State Regina Kraushaar Visits HÖRMANN to Learn About the Future of Autonomous Rail Transport

Chemnitz, August 11, 2026 – As part of her summer tour, Minister of State Regina Kraushaar from the Saxon State Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development visited the headquarters of HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering in Chemnitz. The focus of the visit was the recently signed Letter of Intent regarding autonomous driving in local public transit.

Rail sector successfully included

A special milestone: At the initiative of HÖRMANN Vehicle Engineering, the rail sector was included in the agreement, which was originally focused exclusively on road vehicles. This expansion is a direct result of many years of research in the SmarTram and RailAIxs projects.

Strong Network for Autonomous Mobility

Together with representatives from the City of Chemnitz, Chemnitzer Verkehrs-AG (CVAG), FDTech GmbH, CADA – Chemnitz Automated Driving Alliance, FusionSystems GmbH, IAV, staff-eye GmbH, and the Saxon Energy Agency SAENA GmbH, Dr. Volkmar Vogel and Florian Joch presented the current status of the project and discussed the next steps in its development.

Saxony as a Pioneer in Urban Mobility

“The future of urban mobility will be shaped autonomously not only on the road but also on the railways. Saxony is playing a pioneering role in this,” concluded the project leaders.
